Rehab support services refer to the phase of treatment that follows discharge when the person no longer requires the intensity of primary treatment. It’s also known as addiction support. During this phase, the patient learns different substance abuse relapse prevention techniques to help them achieve long-term recovery.

Our discharge plan, led by recovery professionals, helps those in recovery continue to reorient their behavior to the ongoing reality of a sober lifestyle. The best recovery centers in California emphasize the importance of aftercare for substance abuse treatment. It’s because up to 60% of recovering addicts relapse.

Our Addiction Support Orange County Program is designed to allow participants to increase their independence or review their progress in overcoming drug addiction. Recovery Support Services treatment gives people the flexibility and support to determine whether they’re ready to move forward in sobriety or whether they may need to return to a higher level of care.

An aftercare plan for addiction recovery can include one or more programs depending on a person’s life history. Prior responsibilities may stop one from choosing a certain program. Each requires different levels of time commitment. Most recovery centers in California can connect recovering addicts with the right rehab support services for them.

Sober Living: Southern California

For those who require a gentler transition back into the world after their treatment plan, sober living in Southern California offers another addiction support option. This program helps those who prefer a group setting, and who benefit from the support of their peers. Research has shown that peer mentors and a 24-hour point of contact are also highly valued by clients, even if the latter is rarely used.

One study followed 300 participants at sober living homes. The researchers concluded that sober living programs positively affected:

  • Alcohol and drug abuse
  • Psychiatric symptoms
  • Employment
  • Arrests

Peer support is a powerful tool against the temptations of drugs and alcohol. Recovery professionals are there to help patients 100% of the way. Plus, choosing a facility that offers sober living in Southern California means that external triggers are removed.

Orange County Support Groups and Outpatient Programs

The most common type of Addiction Support Services Program has seen in the 12-Step meetings that clients attend on a daily or weekly basis. At Northbound’s central offices, the individuals who remain in the Newport Beach area often attend meetings with the same recovery professionals they first met in treatment.

There are different kinds of Orange County support groups:

  • Alcoholics Anonymous
  • Narcotics Anonymous
  • SMART Recovery

Clients are not required to complete their Addiction Support Services Program at our main facility—after all, these meetings may occur anywhere in the world. The purpose is to provide the recovering addict with a support structure and executable tasks that must be achieved regularly. Regular tasks help rebuild the sense of responsibility that the client may have lost during his or her addiction. Outpatient programs can act as aftercare after a residential program.

General Outpatient Programs (OPs)

There are different levels of care for each form of outpatient treatment. The least intense type is general outpatient programs. These may be best suited for those just leaving sober living in Southern California, or more intense forms of outpatient programs, like PHPs or IOPs. They require around 3-6 hours a week but ultimately depend on the person.

Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOPs)

Recovering addicts might choose an IOP to be a part of their drug addiction aftercare plan over other outpatient programs in Orange County. Typically, people commit around six to 12 hours per week. However, it might be more or less depending upon the severity of the case.

Partial Hospitalization Programs (PHPs)

PHPs are arguably the most intense form of drug addiction aftercare. Patients come in multiple times a week all day. It’s almost like a full-time job because individuals attend them around five days a week for at least four hours a day.

Why Addiction Support Services Are Important

One of the most critical points in the addiction support phase of treatment is what is called discharge planning. Because our goal at Northbound Treatment is to ensure continued success and sobriety, the recovery process does not end with the completion of our program. Addiction support, even after treatment, is the key to a lasting change. After all, treatment is just the beginning of a lifelong process of growth and discovery that should touch every area of your life when it has been affected by addiction and the underlying issues of mental health disorders. Our discharge planning consultation recognizes that extended care is often necessary for the lifelong recovery people who come to us are seeking.

In order to create a network of support that will lead to long-term sobriety, Northbound connects every participant with appropriate addiction recovery resources. Research has shown conclusively that individuals who choose to continue with counseling and addiction recovery support groups following a treatment program are more likely to maintain their sobriety. Speaking with one of our counselors helps people undergoing treatment by providing a sense of connection and combats feelings of loneliness that can trigger a relapse. Individuals enrolled in our Addiction Support Services Programs also have the option to take classes through our Collegebound® Program or finding jobs and working with our Careerbound® Program; these programs help those who are maintaining a sober lifestyle to keep busy, avoid temptation, enhance productivity, and obtain a proper life balance. In addition, addiction support rehabilitation within the family is a crucial part of the process, and Northbound remains an advocate for families by directing them to helpful resources and providing family therapy in order to fortify a healthy family unit.

4+ Months

While your commitment within the Addiction Support Services phase of treatment can be as little as thirty minutes, our recommendation is an enrollment of four months. When added to our recommended lengths of stay for Residential Treatment (four months) and Outpatient (five months), this brings you to your one year of continuous sobriety. While every individual’s journey is unique, we are here to ensure your lasting recovery, and our admissions specialists will help carve out the path of treatment at Northbound that is best for your recovery.
