Like much of California, Huntington Beach is a fabulous place to live, go to school, and work, offering the gorgeous beaches, surfing, bike paths, and more. It also has adults and teens with drug and alcohol issues, especially opioid addiction. In fact, since 2005, emergency visits from opioid overdose in Orange County have more than doubled.

So, if you are struggling with addiction, you are far from alone. And there are more than enough treatment resources in Huntington Beach, California, waiting for you.

Start by patting yourself on the back for taking this step to look because in California only 10 percent of those with drug and alcohol issues seek treatment. And it doesn’t have to be that way.

But what resources are there and is there a great rehab in Huntington Beach, California for me, you ask?

To help, we’ve put together some basic resources. Keep reading for what you need to know on local drug and alcohol rehabs and other useful information.

How Many Treatment Centers Are in Huntington Beach?

There are hundreds of treatment centers, detox centers, sober livings, and recovery support meetings that serve Huntington Beach, but there are just around 10 treatment centers in Huntington Beach proper.

So how do you know where to look?

Think of looking for a rehab like looking for a gym: You want one that you will actually go to.

The location of a rehab is a big deal for an outpatient treatment program. This is a program where you do recovery work at the rehab but live off campus. You might live at home or at a sober living, or anywhere safe to lie your sober head.

For residential treatment, where you live at the rehab, you just have to make sure you get there in the first place. Going a bit outside of Huntington Beach proper works.

The Northbound facility is in Newport Beach. It’s local and, like HB, has gorgeous beaches to surf and visit with the in-treatment group.

Remember to pick a place you will actually go to locally or drive to because you like it so much. You should like the look and love how it makes you feel. Or at least, the one that gets closest.

What Types of Treatment Centers Are in Huntington Beach?

You have everything you need for recovery right there in HB or nearby. There are multiple types of treatment centers. Some offer a variety of programs while others just offer one piece of the recovery puzzle.

Let’s take a look.

Alcohol and Drug Treatment and Rehab Centers

These are the ones that usually offer a variety of treatment programs, like ours in Newport.

You can do a residential treatment program where you move right in for an extended period. You can detox there. You’re removed from any triggers that may be in your home.

You can start a recovery program that you can maintain when you leave. You’re with a group of others struggling and recovering just like you.

Some centers offer a partial residential treatment program where you live at home or in another off-campus location but do the same intense program as the in-house residents. This lets you keep doing things in your life at the same time, if possible.

You can do a full outpatient treatment program where you don’t live at the center. This one also lets you stay at work or take care of the people at home if needed.

Rehab and treatment centers also offer a detox program focused solely on getting you off the drugs or alcohol. This can be done in residence or with living off campus They help you get through the withdrawals, with medical supervision as needed.

Detox Centers

These are centers that only have a detox program. No living in and no ongoing recovery meetings, therapy, and support.

Sober Livings

These aren’t actual treatment centers but places where recovering alcoholics and drug addicts can live while launching into recovery. Residents usually must actively be in a recovery program and stick to within parameters, like going to a specific number of 12-step meetings a week.

Sober living is also an option for after a residential treatment program if you need more structure than at home and to avoid triggers.

12-Step Meetings

These meetings are offered to support recovering addicts and alcoholics in all stages of recovery, from detox to living happily in ongoing sobriety. These meetings are all over town, including at actual rehab centers, often.

What Programs Are Offered in Huntington Beach, California?

You can find all the programs you need for rehab in Huntington Beach, California, and the cities nearby. Let’s take a quick look at what all the programs offer.

Residential Treatment Programs

Live onsite at the center in dorms or other nice rooms. The goal is for you to succeed at getting sober while there and staying sober.

Staying sober involves tools and ongoing meetings and support that you learn about and practice while there. You follow a strict schedule.

You can detox with medical supervision if needed. You get a whole staff that supports you with practical life things, including a case manager, counselor, and various therapists.

Some programs, like ours at Northbound, use tried and true philosophical models that help you integrate with your life, like the Northbound In Vivo® Model. It takes your specific needs into consideration and helps you live in the world by starting to interact with the world already while living at the center.

At Northbound, our residential programs include a men’s program, a women’s program, and a Christian program. Some centers have other focuses, like teens.

Intensive Outpatient Programs

These do what residential programs do but you don’t live at the center. The structure is the same otherwise. Some people live at home or at a nearby sober living.

Outpatient programs let you work and care for a family if needed.

Outpatient Treatment Programs

These programs have the same goals and many of the same strategies as the residential programs but you don’t live at the center. Non-intensive programs often work great after a detox or residential program.

You usually attend 12-step meetings with others in the program and are on a set schedule. You usually do service work as part of the program and also do fun activities so you can build rapport and support with others in the same boat.

Detox Programs

A detox is focused specifically on helping you get off drugs and alcohol so you can heal and recover. It helps you through substance withdrawals. It helps you detox in a safe way with medical supervision.

Often, detoxing on your own can be very dangerous and life-threatening. In a detox, you’re monitored around the clock.

Support Programs

These are what you do when you have the drugs or alcohol (or both) out of your system.

Sober livings offer a place to live with other sober people while you get used to your new and happier life and how to manage it. You’ll be given a schedule of things to do that you have to stick to, like going to meetings or being a part of a recovery or treatment program.

Therapycounseling, and support group programs are offered by many rehabs too. These also help you continue to live out there in the world. Think of them as a constant lifeline.

You’ll want to stay connected through 12-step meetings and these other ongoing programs. You can find an HB meeting here.

  • Medication. Make sure you bring your prescription medications with you. Our staff will administer your medication during your stay at our facility.
  • Toiletries. You should bring toiletries with you. These include a brush/comb, toothpaste, toothbrush, and other essentials.
  • Documents. Make sure you bring ID with you (driver’s license, passport, etc.). You will also need to bring your insurance card and prescription card.
  • Books, Notebooks, and Other Items. Bring things to do during your downtime. This may be knitting materials, books, a notebook, and so on.
  • Clothing. Pack some comfortable clothing for your stay. Also make sure you pack socks, underwear, shoes, and shoes for the shower.
  • Photos. Many patients find that having photos of their loved ones around helps them a lot. These photos serve as a reminder of those that are rooting for your success.
  • Contacts. You won’t have access to your cellphone during your stay. Because of this, you’ll want to bring a list of contacts. This includes your emergency contacts.

Bring a positive outlook as well. If you remain positive and upbeat during recovery, the journey will be that much easier. Remember, you have an amazing life in sobriety ahead of you!

If you have additional questions about what to expect and what to bring, reach out to our team at Northbound Treatment Center. We are available to answer your questions. We want to make sure the transition to our facility is as stress-free and seamless as possible. We look forward to helping you!
