If you or a loved one are struggling with a substance use disorder, it is not too late to get help. The fact that you are on this site means you have made the first step in the recovery process. We want to congratulate you; any step is a big accomplishment. However, the last thing you need to worry about in the recovery process is money. Insurance is difficult to understand, rarely stagnant, and can determine if you can or cannot afford treatment. Luckily, we at Northbound Treatment want you to know the ins and outs of your policy. We have an insurance team that is always available to help you understand your policy. Below we will be breaking down one of our associates, Beacon.
Insurance for Drug and Alcohol Treatment
Beacon has helped over 40 million people across all 50 states for 30 years. They are among the best providers of health insurance for behavioral health. Beacon “offers superior clinical mental health and substance use disorder management, a comprehensive employee assistance program, work/life support, specialty programs for autism and depression, and insightful analytics to improve the delivery of care.” Since Beacon covers such a wide span of behavioral health, from mental illness to addiction, you should find that you are in good hands
Helping You Navigate Your Policy
Beacon Health has such a wide span of coverage that it will take care of you in some form almost all the time. However, Beacon also works through many different insurance companies, so while it will cover partially most things, sometimes you may find yourself having to find out what a separate company provides for you coverage. We will go more in depth below.
Addiction Prevention Tools with Your Policy
Beacon maintains a team of clinical staff during all hours of the day, every day of the week, 365 days a year. This support network is made up of medical professionals and recovery programs. Another powerful prevention tool is the Stamp Out Stigma program. It seeks to end the stigma surrounding mental illness and substance abuse.
Policy Coverage for Substance Abuse with Your Policy
Beacon policy coverage is incredibly broad. On the plus side, this means you can expect almost any form of treatment is covered to some extent. However, this also may mean that you will have to pay some form of copay and expect to pay a portion of the price. Along with this, since Beacon has many different partners you may find yourself having to contact a different company to figure out your form of payment. However, Beacon is incredible at what they do, and what they do is behavioral health. While it may be generalized and complicated, you are in good hands with Beacon.
Does it Need to be In-Network?
While the specific amount varies from plan to plan, for the most part you will expect to stick to in-network treatments. Out-of-network treatments might have to be paid for out of pocket. However, this is not in the case of an emergency which necessitates out-of-network facilities.
About Coverage for Detoxification
Beacon will most likely have some form of coverage for detox. Medical detox is often the very first official step in the recovery process. It is the point in which all the toxins are flushed from the body, which leads to debilitating withdrawal symptoms. These symptoms are dangerous and painful, which is why having them medically supervised is so important. Since Beacon provides coverage for inpatient, you can expect some portion of detox covered as well, but the specifics vary plan to plan.
Covers Inpatient Insurance
Beacon will most likely cover portions of the inpatient treatment. While the amount that they cover will vary with the plan, you can expect to find some form of your treatment being covered by Beacon. That being said, you will most likely require a copayment (fees for specific services plan holders must pay before their insurance will pay anything) and meet deductibles (a total amount for all services that a plan holder must pay before their insurance will contribute). Along these lines, it will also most likely need to be in-network, unless an emergency required out-of-network treatment.
Coverage for Mental Health Treatment
Mental health is also a topic that needs to be discussed involving insurance. Mental illness on its own is debilitating enough. However, when an addiction co-occurs with a mental illness it becomes a co-occurring disorder. We want you to get your whole self, mind, and body, treated. It can be challenging, but it is best to know which options are available, and what is able to be treated with Beacon insurance policy. Some of the following are examples of mental illness.
- Anxiety
- Depression
- Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder
- Bipolar Disorder
- Eating Disorders
Recently laws have been passed that do not allow discrimination based on mental illness, thus if your policy covers something for addiction; it likely covers the same in regard to mental illness. Along with this, Beacon is one fo the best supporters of behavioral health in the world. Helping mental health is one of their primary goals, so you should be in good hands.
