Drug Rehab in Orange County

From 2013 to 2015, there were over 16,000 drug- and alcohol-related hospitalizations in Orange County and 2,047 overdose deaths[1]. About 25% of the incidences were characterized as chronic substance dependence[1]. After alcohol misuse, opioids were the leading substance contributing to hospitalizations in the region[1]. In California, roughly 45% of overdose deaths involved opioids in 2018[2].

What’s even more concerning is that since 2000, drug overdose deaths have increased by over 80%[1]. Sadly, although substance abuse and addiction are prevalent problems in Southern California, very few seek drug rehab. Orange County is a stunning region of Southern California, and Northbound Treatment is proud to call it home to our addiction treatment facilities.

Are you or someone close to you struggling with drug dependence or addiction? If so, we’re glad you’re here. At Northbound, we’re committed to helping individuals overcome substance abuse with fully integrated and customizable programs in sunny Orange County. Drug Rehab Orange County, CA: What to Expect

The decision to begin treatment can be overwhelming and full of uncertainties, which is why it can be helpful to have a basic understanding of the process. While everyone’s path to recovery is different, many individuals get the most out of the full continuum of care. This means treatment begins with detox, followed by an inpatient treatment program, then an outpatient treatment program, and finally, addiction support for relapse prevention.

Drug Detox

Detox is short for detoxification, and it’s the process of cleansing chemical substances and toxins from the body, ultimately eliminating physical dependence on drugs. When a person is addicted to a substance, going without a dose usually results in withdrawal symptoms[3]. These symptoms vary depending on the specific drug, the nature of the addiction, and a person’s unique health profile.

However, some of the most common withdrawal symptoms include:

  • Psychological symptoms, such as anxiety, depression, mood swings, paranoia, agitation, and extreme drug cravings
  • Behavioral symptoms, such as restlessness, insomnia, excitability, or self-harm
  • Physical symptoms, such as clammy skin, tremors, congestion, muscle pain, shakiness, dehydration, appetite loss, and lethargy
  • Flu-like symptoms, such as fever, excessive sweating, fatigue, nausea, and vomiting

Under the medical supervision of our accredited 180 Detox program in Orange County, clients can get clean in a safe and supportive environment. Our detox center is overseen by Dr. Kristen Schmidt.

While some aspects of detox must be faced head-on, our clinical staff can help make some of the severe physical withdrawal symptoms less uncomfortable. Ultimately, detox is the first step in recovery, serving as a prerequisite to the next stage of treatment.

Inpatient Rehab

Once medical detox is complete, clients transition to inpatient (residential) rehab. At this point, a designated care team will collaborate with you to determine which treatment program best aligns with your unique lifestyle, health history, and goals. Many patients at our residential treatment center in Orange County receive what we call dual diagnosis treatment, which accounts for a co-occurring mental health disorder along with drug addiction.

Our inpatient treatment programs are gender-responsive, meaning they cater to the inherent differences in how substance abuse and mental illness affect women and men. We’ve found that those who participate in gender-specific drug rehab programs tend to remain in treatment longer and experience higher success rates in addiction recovery.

During your stay at our treatment facilities, you’ll attend one-on-one therapy sessions where a licensed psychotherapist will help you identify the underlying causes of your substance abuse. You’ll also participate in group therapy, outdoor recreational activities, and other evidence-based approaches to treatment.

Outpatient Treatment

Outpatient drug rehab at our Orange County treatment center is the recovery phase during which clients return home while still attending a certain number of sessions a week. In some instances of mild substance abuse, outpatient treatment can be effective on its own. However, we recommend that most people complete a residential rehab program first.

Living at home after inpatient residential treatment can be alarming. Our goal is to ease you back into a “normal” lifestyle to set you up for success and prevent relapse. In outpatient treatment for drug addiction, you’ll continue solidifying your recovery with ongoing motivation and guidance from your care team and sober peers.

At Northbound Treatment, we offer a few types of outpatient treatment. The first is IOP (intensive outpatient), which requires up to 12 weekly participation hours. Then we have OP (outpatient), which typically follows IOP and requires up to six weekly participation hours. We’re also proud to provide telehealth services for clients who may not be able to commute to our facilities. Our HomeBound telehealth program has been up and running since 2016, serving those in need of both intensive and non-intensive care, as well as mental health therapy.

Addiction Support Services

Outpatient treatment is designed to prepare clients for sober life at home, but what happens after an OP program? At Northbound, a pillar of our treatment model is recognizing that the road to recovery is not only long but also full of ups and downs. We offer addiction support services, which provide you with the care you need to thrive after detox, inpatient, and outpatient treatment.

In this phase, individual therapy and group counseling sessions might be as short as 30 minutes with only one or two appointments a week. But if you and your care team determine that you may need to take a step back and return to more intensive treatment, we can always adjust your plan. Though aftercare plans vary, they usually involve online case management, goal setting and follow-ups, one-on-one coaching and therapy, and drug testing.
