Young Adults Drug Treatment
Teen drug abuse is an issue that’s been around for a while, but nonetheless it is an issue we want to take head on.
The main mission at Northbound Treatment Services is to help each and every client lay a solid foundation for long-term recovery. The residential rehab focuses on bringing meaning, purpose and respect to the life of newly sober individuals by utilizing a variety of biological, social, spiritual and psychological interventions. Located in sunny Orange County, Northbound offers clients a safe and serene setting — as well as an outstanding staff-to-client ratio — to guide them to the path of lifelong sobriety.
What Factors Contribute to Addiction in Young Adults?
Young adults often don’t realize the dependency or the risk of addiction in certain drugs. Many people find themselves starting to use a certain substance without fully understanding the repercussions.
Some of the reasons young adults may start experimenting with drugs are:
- Relieving stress
- Experimenting with peers/peer pressure
- Enhancing performance
- Chasing a state of euphoria
Drug use is seen as a small, harmless activity among young adults. The “it won’t happen to me” mindset can blur the seriousness of the situation. However, addiction can occur even after just one use. Over time, the brain stops producing certain chemicals and starts to depend on the substance to fulfill the void.
Coming off harmful drugs, such as heroin and opioids, should be treated in a professional setting. A treatment center helps alleviate withdrawal symptoms, provides relapse recovery tools and promotes lasting sobriety. You will also learn about ongoing recovery options and local support groups to stay motivated throughout your journey.
Northbound Academy Program
Northbound Academy Program is integrated with our drug rehab for young adults and provides the perfect opportunity to receive addiction treatment while simultaneously receiving help for career and educational endeavors.
The Northbound Academy Specializes young adults drug treatment ages 18 to 25 years old.
The treatment of young adults (aged 18-25) who are addicted to drugs and/or alcohol requires special care and presents unique challenges. At an age where so many of their peers are full of plans and hopes for the future, many drug addicted young adults have problems related to educational and occupational ambivalence. For that reason, drug rehab for young adults necessitates special guidance in the areas of education and occupation development.
At the Northbound Academy, we have educational consultants and career consultants on staff to help young adults with their occupational and educational goals. This can mean helping them envision and develop those goals as well as completing the goals that they’ve already begun, but have been derailed. For Young Adults, the Northbound Academy Program provides the perfect opportunity to receive addiction treatment while simultaneously receiving help for career and educational endeavors.
Our program is specifically designed to aid young adults in the grip of chemical dependency (and any co-occurring disorders), overcome those issues and move toward a happier and productive future. The Northbound Academy uses a combination of motivational enhancement and therapeutic techniques to help young adults suffering from addiction begin, continue, or complete their academic careers.
In addition, our young adults drug treatment center has a young, yet experienced staff that our students can relate to and learn from. We are the next generation of treatment in every sense of the word. By creating activities and events that cater to a young adult population, we heavily emphasize fun in sobriety. The Northbound Academy goes to great lengths to make our students’ activities even more exciting and adventurous. In this way, we hope to help our students achieve their career goals and aspirations along with their desire for a healthy, sober life.
Among the key factors to any successful recovery are motivation, support, and hope. Students find all three at Northbound Academy. Out of the many programs offered at Northbound Treatment Services, the Academy was developed for young people who want to move forward in their high school, college, or vocational education while they get substance abuse treatment and the ability to enter early recovery. Partnering with the University of California, Irvine (UCI), as well as three community colleges, the Academy offers a range of services to help students combine education with long-term sobriety.
Treatment
Treatment focuses on helping patients achieve one year of continuous sobriety based on the 12 Steps of Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A full range of care allows clients to remain in the same therapeutic setting while they transition from detox to support services. Between these levels are Men’s CORE and Women’s CORE extended care programs, Northbound Academy, and Intensive Outpatient Services. Northbound also offers LINKS, a Christian-based treatment program.
Each level of treatment includes group meetings designed to engage clients with the foundations of the 12 Steps, complemented by meetings with such outside community groups as AA, Narcotics Anonymous (NA), and Anorexics and Bulimics Anonymous (ABA). Once their recovery is firmly established, clients transition to support services that provide continued accountability.
Education and Skillset Building
Whether their goal is to pass the GED, enroll into a graduate program, or master a trade and become anything from a chef to an EMT, students at Northbound Academy have many services at their disposal to aid them in their road to recovery. Staff tutors work with students during daily study groups. A dedicated computer lab and a study room are designed to help develop good study skills and foster the necessary discipline to achieve academic goals.
“Every student won’t receive an ‘A’ in every class,” said Program Manager Matthew Kinoshita. “But they will begin building the kind of solid study skills they need to meet their goals, and the positive peer interaction will help them build confidence that will enhance both their education and their long-term recovery.”
Another great part of the Academy is the life skills training offered. This includes real-life skills such as money management skills.
Community Service
Service is not negotiable to the 12 Steps, and here at the Academy, we have witnessed firsthand that giving back brings on a feeling of fulfillment like no other. Through a strategic partnership with the Los Angeles Mission, Academy students regularly reach out to the city’s homeless and indigent.
Many also devote their time to Someone Cares Soup Kitchen, where they help prepare food for the needy in Orange County, CA. Dedicating time to serve provides our pupils with a sense of perspective and gratitude, sometimes even providing an awakening from addiction’s selfish tendencies.
Healthy Fun
To support the transition from treatment into early recovery, the Academy organizes monthly activities where the only objective is clean, sober fun geared specifically toward young adults. These include sporting events, comedy shows, amusement parks, local attractions, and outdoor activities ranging from jet-pack riding to stand-up paddle surfing. As they experience the simple enjoyment of being young, healthy, and sober, students also build camaraderie and establish friendships.
Together, all four components of Northbound Academy provide an opportunity for discovery and healing in a safe and supportive environment.

We’d love to help give you the tools to do that.
